Exhibitions:
The life and Culture of Bosnia and Herzegovina's Urban Population in the 19th Century
The exhibition is located on the first floor of the Ethnology Department building. There visitors can see how their ancestors lived as they move through a series of six authentic rooms from centuries past. The beauty of carved and engraved wood and of the arabesques on display fascinates every visitor. Mannequins in traditional costumes illustrate various scenes from life – courting and love, family life, preparation of girls for marriage, marital life, the lives of women at home and outside the house. The scene in the central room is of a hearing in a mercantile tribunal.
The exhibition halls on the ground floor of the ethnology department are used for temporary exhibitions.
The basement halls house showcases with models of typical workshops:
Samokov – old blacksmith's workshop;
Tabhana – tannery;
Textile rolling mill;
Old majdan (mine) with a settlement in Vareš;
Pile dwelling settlement near Bosanska Gradiška
Temporary thematic exhibitions of various kinds are housed on the ground floor.
